Since its inception, USGBC-ET has brought together building professionals and community members to celebrate outstanding achievements, leaders and volunteers who have advanced sustainability in the East Tennessee region through the annual Green Light Awards.

Submissions will be eligible for two award categories: Green Project Awards and the Student’s Choice Award.

Any built project completed after January 1, 2009 in the East Tennessee region is eligible for submission. The Green Light Awards Program is open to projects of all types including new construction, remodeling, interiors, rehabilitation, preservation, urban design projects, civic improvements, regional plans, environmental programs, or redevelopment projects.  Projects do not need to be LEED certified to be considered for a Green Project award.

The 2013 USGBC-ET Green Light Awards will accept submissions for Green Projects via email. Upon receipt of your entry form and fee, you will be provided with both PowerPoint and InDesign templates as well as accompanying instructions. To maintain consistency and fairness, modifications to the templates cannot not be accepted. Final project submissions must be submitted in portable document format (.pdf) or powerpoint (.ppt) format. Please note that project authorship must remain concealed- If authorship is revealed on any images, plans or narrative, the entry will be disqualified.

The following will be required for integration into your final submission:

  • Project Information: Include summary statement, detailed summary, area and cost, date of completion, project code number.
  • Drawings and Images: Include images, plans, details, diagrams, or sketches as required to fully describe the sustainable qualities of the built work.  Clear communication of the sustainable attributes of the project generally requires a variety of image types and drawings. Be sure to indicate solar orientation on drawings.
  • Identification Information*: Include name and location of project, owner/client, architect(s), designers, landscape architect, consultants, general contractor, photographer and all other team members. Also include the project Code Number.

*This information will not be seen by the jury and will only be used to identify winners and assist with award presentations. The entire project team will be recognized at the awards ceremony.

Each project will be judged according to its own merits and will be evaluated in terms of specific constraints, opportunities addressed, the quality and rigor of sustainability integration, and the “triple bottom line”—i.e., providing holistic solutions that simultaneously address environmental, social, and economic criteria.

Green Project Awards will be decided by an independent, impartial group of USGBC Board members from a chapter within the southeast region. Winners will be announced and awards presented at the 2013 USGBC-ET Green Light Awards on January 30, 2013.

Student’s Choice Awards will be decided by a panel from the Knox County Schools L&N STEM Academy. Winners will be announced and awards presented at the 2013 USGBC-ET Green Light Awards on January 30, 2013.

  • Extended deadline! Project Entry forms and fee of $100 per project must be received by December 13, 2013
